  • Finding a Doctor
  • Childbirth Classes
  • Nutrition Education
  • Breastfeeding Support
  • Information on how to Quit Smoking
  • Parenting Support and Education
  • Information on Counseling Services
  • Family Planning or Baby Spacing
  • Links to Other Community Resources
  • Home Visits by Health Professionals
  • Help with Transportation
How Can Healthy Start Make a Difference?

Good nutrition, healthy habits, and a positive state of mind for the new mom are important for a healthy baby. Healthy Start can help you learn how to have a healthy, baby-friendly lifestyle.

  

For a Healthy Baby:

  • Get prenatal care as soon as possible
  • Eat nutritious food
  • Take Folic Acid
  • Don't smoke or drink alcohol
  • Don't use any drugs without a doctor's prescription

Because Healthy Babies:

  • Require fewer doctor visits
  • Have fewer developmental problems
  • Do well in school because of fewer learning problems
  • Sleep better
How to Obtain Healthy Start Services....

To obtain Healthy Start services, be sure to say YES when offered a Healthy Start screen:

  • Prenatally with OB/GYN physician
  • Postnatally at the hospital where your baby is born
  • Or, you can also refer yourself by calling Healthy Start at
    833-9284
